ADJOINING
CENTRES
An
introduction to the other Welsh Centres
The Dyfed Centre
The Dyfed Centre was formed in 1976, as an alternative to the West Wales
Centre. It's boundaries were the former county of Dyfed. Due to recent
local Government re-organisation, it is now the Counties of Carmarthenshire,
Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion.
Our
area is perhaps one of the most interesting and varied in Wales, the
rugged and beautiful coastlines of Pembroke and Cardigan; rolling hills
of Carmarthenshire; award winning beaches of Tenby; Pembrey and Pendine;
and the Oakwood theme park - a few of our many attractions.
We rally throughout the year with a varied programme of events and locations,
both inside and outside our boundaries. Social events and sports are
arranged for all age groups. Longer rallies are organised for Bank holidays,
plus a two week Holiday rally during August. We have a very active Youth
Section, who also organise trips and events.
The North Wales Centre
The North Wales Centre was formed
in September 1969. Until that time we had rallied as " The Cheshire
and North Wales Centre ".
Rallies are arranged throughout the year with varied activities and
themed weekends to suit all tastes.
We hold rallies over Bank Holidays and for longer breaks in beautiful
parts of North Wales, Snowdonia, Llandudno and Anglesey. A regular feature
of our programme is a twelve- day rally at Llangollen to coincide with
the International Eisteddfod, in July.
The youth committee takes an active role within the Centre. They organise
sporting rallies, fun dog shows, etc., whilst also raising money for
local charities.
The West Wales Centre
The West Wales Centre was formed in 1965 and our area mainly covers
the City and County of Swansea, the Swansea Valley and the picturesque
Gower Peninsular.
We are a relatively small Centre, but we have members all over Wales
who enjoy our full programme of weekend rallies, extended Bank Holiday
and holiday rallies.
Our various committees organise a varied programme of events ranging
from Volley-ball, for the sports minded, to strawberry teas for those
who prefer to take life at a more leisurely pace.
The Youth section provides many activities for all ages, including their
annual " fun day out ".
The Welsh are renowned for being a friendly race, West Wales Centre
members are no exception to the rule!
The South Glamorgan Centre
We are the smallest of the Centres but will offer you a big-hearted
welcome! The Centre was formed in 1976 when 25 members of the South
Wales Centre elected to form their own Centre. In 2002 we celebrate
our 1000th rally.
The old County of South Glamorgan has since disappeared to become the
Counties of Cardiff and the Vale of South Glamorgan. The multi-cultural
capital of Wales falls within our area, as do the towns of Cowbridge,
Barry and the seaside resort of Barry Island.
Between March and December the Centre organises a wide variety of rallies,
both inside and outside our boundaries. There is a weekend rally most
weekends, with Bank Holiday and holiday rallies providing that longer
break.
They say that good things come in small packages, in the case of South
Glamorgan they are probably right.
The Gwent Centre
Standing at the gateway to Wales, the Monmouthshire Centre was formed
on the 1st of January 1970, following a meeting of South Wales Centre
members. With local Government re-organisation in 1974, the Monmouthshire
Centre was renamed " Gwent ".
Within our boundaries are the picturesque Wye Valley, bustling towns
such as Abergavenny, Newport, Cwmbran and Chepstow, and a World heritage
site at Blaenavon- just a few of Gwent's many attractions.
We rally practically the year round with weekend and holiday rallies
not only within Gwent but throughout the United Kingdom. A continental
rally is also a regular feature in our programme.
Putting something back into the community, the Gwent Centre supports
local charities, raising thousands of pounds every year.
